Managerial Epidemiology has been a very eye-opening beneficial course that will help me in my future position tremendously. Several topics have interested me in this course as each week I have continued to learn more and more about the importance of managerial epidemiology. I have learned that managerial epidemiology is the study of the application of epidemiologic concepts and principles to the practice of management ( Fleming, S.T, 2015). Every discussion, module, and assignment has helped me to learned something new that I did not know or understand before entering this course and grasping a more in-depth concept of public health topics I thought I knew. The most important thing that was learned in this course was the WILL Interactive “Partner to Heal” Janice Upshaw assignment was a great assignment that helped me in seeing the importance of Clinical Epidemiology in Routine Medical Practice and Leadership and Epidemiology. Going through the stimulation was a great way to not only see what Infectionist Preventionist duties are but how important it was for her to communicate and interprofessional collaborate with all the other sectors in the public health field. The WILL interactive “Partnering to Heal “stimulations (WILL, 2021) help public health professionals review and discuss the changes that need to change to improve desired healthcare outcomes for health facilities in patients at the three levels of intervention ( primary, secondary, tertiary). I will apply this knowledge to my future role by making sure to effectively communicate and collaborate with my multidisciplinary team to ensure that we are achieving the desired health outcomes for our patients. This stimulation helped to show me that everyone has a part to play in failing or saving a patient and how everyone needs to make sure they are effectively following protocol and not taking shortcuts because those shortcuts could put someone’s life at risk.

It has been a wonderful experience being a part of such like-minded people on here. My learning experience has been intriguing, I’ve learned so much good information from everyone and their posts. A couple of chapters really caught my eyes in our reading during these past weeks to mention one Chapter 18 Epidemiology and Leadership. This chapter speaks about the science and art in leadership, the importance of being unique in your on way always of course, keeping protocols in mind. Power is a key ingredient in influencing people and can be classified into five different types: 1. referent power based on whether the leader is admired by and identified with the followers; 2. expert power based on perceptions of leader competence; 3. legitimate power based on status and formal job authority; 4. reward power derived from the leader’s ability to reward followers; and 5. coercive power, which is related to the ability to penalize or punish others (Fleming, 2014). I believe that a good leader is developed over time, with their own experience, tactic, fundamentals, and character. So much, goes into becoming a leader because of the role model you become towards others. This class opened my eyes to a better understanding that takes a leader to make a significant difference in other’s lives. Also, expanding my knowledge into a glimpse of public health was exciting to see that both administration and public work hand to hand depending on the position you hold. it has been a pleasure working with you all and I wish you all the best of luck in your future endouvers.

My biggest take away is that when conducting research, it is very important to follow strict guidelines to ensure the study I conducted properly. This will ensure that the study has accurate results. I do believe that ethics in research is a clear-cut issue. There should be no deviations from the rules and regulations of the IRB. Information should ever be falsified or misconstrued. If this occurs it can put the participant’s lives at risk and it can cause the study to be shut terminated. The person or persons who conduct themselves unprofessional can also face legal and professional consequences. I will ensure that my research is conducted ethically by ensuring myself and my team know all the regulations set forth by the IRB and ensure they are followed accordingly. Some challenges I may face are confronting people who conduct themselves unprofessionally, as shown in the scenario with Dr. Sowers. If this occurs, I will correct the issue and ensure the team knows what is to be expected of them. I would not tolerate any intentional missteps in protocol. This would put the whole research project in danger of being shut down. It is very important that the whole team works together in a professional and ethical manner.

The research in ethics are important. It enables the researcher to focus on the research more apparently. Ethics in research is a matter of concern because the research may lead to various outputs, it is very uncertain about the results; the harm, problem the volunteers or the participants faces is a matter of concern (Grenfield, 2016). The research ethics involves: Voluntary participation, Justice, Beneficence, Right to privacy, Informed consent and Confidentiality. The way of ensuring research will be conducted in an ethical manner is by following those principles as well as existent regulations (Weinbaum et al.,2018).

The ethics are very clear as it is based on the moral principles. So, the grey areas could be sometimes arises such as the ethics are undefined (McKenna & Gray, 2018). The latter means that most of the time things that concerns researchers may not concern to the participants or vice versa or the impact on the participants may be not positive but research may not show concern etc. (Resnik,2018); these are the potential challenges
