When you play a game of Dialect, usually you end the game with something called the Legacy. In the Legacy, each character reflects on their experiences in the Isolation through the lens of a specific question. Your Legacy will be slightly different.

This is a group assignment but each player in your group has their own task to complete. This task, generally, is to, IN CHARACTER, make a piece of art, writing, music, etc. that responds to your character’s time in the isolation. Once each player has completed their task, everyone should look at all of these individual parts and reflect on them. Then, each player should write an out-of-character reflection on the game, their contribution to the Legacy assignment, and the contribution of one other player to the Legacy assignment. All contributions should have one other player reflecting on them.

So, first things first.

Life on the planet you are colonizing has not been non-stop terraforming and society-building. Each of you has had down time to pursue modest hobbies and creative endeavors. Sappho might be writing poetry. Nadia might be making a master Spotify playlist or becoming a TikTok sensation. Socrates might be making quippy memes using the Isolation’s new language. Enkidu is almost certainly painting pastoral landscapes strictly from memory.

Your individual task for the legacy assignment is to, IN CHARACTER, produce a creative work inspired by your time in this Isolation and your original text. It can be poetry, music, visual art, really anything, so long as you can make the case that your character would have produced it, it is clearly influenced by the game and the original text, and you are able to submit it digitally.

Assemble all of these works together in a Google Doc collaboration on your group homepage in Canvas. Look at all of your fellow players’ submissions and decide as a group who is going to comment on whose submission.

OUT OF CHARACTER, write a reflection on the creative work you produced, explaining how it is influenced by the original text and the game, and how playing the game and making this creative work has added to or changed your understanding of the character you played as and the text that character comes from and how it has shaped your overall thinking about what is required to live a good life.

OUT OF CHARACTER, write a reflection on the creative work of one of your fellow players, commenting on how that player’s creative work has added to or changed your understanding of their character and the text they come from and how it has shaped your overall thinking about what it takes to live a good life.

All players’ creative works and reflections should be submitted together by EACH PLAYER in ONE DOCUMENT in the following format:
