2a–Blind Contour Drawing of Hand (don’t look) using HB or 2B pencil, 5 min

3a–Foreshortened Drawing of Hand on Picture Plane using felt marker, 15 minutes (looking)

3b–Different contour drawing of foreshortened hand or foot on Picture Plane (looking) using felt marker (Use as reference for next 3c Drawing) 5 minutes

3c–Contour Drawing of hand or foot in same position as you drew in 3b. Use 3b Picture Plane Drawing as reference to create a contour drawing on 11” x 14” paper,30 minutes

4a–Chair Drawing on Picture plane using felt marker

4b—Toned paper drawing of chair using 4a Picture Plane drawing as reference using charcoal or graphite, eraser and smudge cloth on 11” x 14” paper, focusing on negative shapes around the object, 1-2 hours

Weekly Drawing Projects From the Lectures

The weekly lecture videos explain exactly what you are supposed to draw, materials that you will need, and what size paper to use (she will say 11 x 14 or 18 x 24).

There are a few instances where she states to complete the drawing in your sketchbook, and then it is fine to do so. But for the most part, you will be using your 2 larger drawing pads for these Drawing Exercises, or in some instances, drawing on your Plexiglas with your erasable marker.

1. Make sure to listen to the instructions carefully.

2. When you are supposed to stop the video and do a drawing exercise, the screen turns a greyish blue color.

3. Follow her instructions for each exercise, take your time, RELAX and just do the best that you can!

Do not do the drawings for your exercises in your small sketchbook unless she states to do so in the video segment.

The key is to draw nice and large. No tiny drawings!

Label each drawing with the corresponding Lecture Exercise # and your name. The upper right hand corner is usually a good place to write this.

Upload all Lecture Exercise Drawings together—not as separate, single jpegs. I usually recommend putting each week’s drawings into two separate Powerpoints (one for Sketchbook Drawings and one for Project Drawings) this is the easiest and most effective way to keep all of your drawings organized and provides for easy uploading as well.

See the Assignment List (which I will send as a separate announcement/email) to know how many drawings should be uploaded each week and how they should be labeled. It is usually between 8 — 12. These should be uploaded to the appropriate blog titled “Week _ Projects”

Be sure to photograph your Plexiglas Drawings with a white sheet of paper underneath before you wipe it clean!!

Remember—this is supposed to be fun! Do not stress about your drawings looking perfect right away—you are learning! This is class is probably going to be quite different from the others you have taken. You may be pushed out of your comfort zone—that is a good thing!

Your grade is based on your own creative growth, and isn’t a comparison to anyone else’s work.
