For this Time Capsule, the goal is to create a summary of the core ideas that you learned in this class and document this moment in your personal history as a reminded to your future self of what Spring 2021 was really like. Please review, organize and personalize your Time Capsule by following these instructions
Review your module posts, discussion questions and reflection papers and pull out the key paragraphs, ideas and concepts that you, personally, want to remember in the future. You may copy verbatim from your previous work for this class and paste directly into a new overview document for the Time Capsule, but we encourage you to edit and improve upon your writing wherever possible. Please pick at least 5 concepts, terms, ideas or readings from at least 3 different modules that you would like to remember in the future.
Organize your thoughts into a clear, accessible 4-6 page essay (single-spaced, 12-point font, normal margins) that summarizes the 5 (or more) concepts you want to remember in the future. Make sure that the concepts are in BOLD.Include an introductory paragraph and conclusion so that you create a new document that captures the core ideas of your previous work in the class. You may organize this essay as a traditional essay – intro, body paragraphs for each topic and conclusion – or you may introduce the concepts as bullet points with headings so that your future self has an easier time pulling out the core ideas. Think of this as a Consuming Happiness Advice Guide for your future self. Answer the following questions as you organize: What do I want to remember? Why does it matter — to others and to me? How can I make this happen in my life? Do I hope that a year from now I will have taken specific steps to put this idea into action?
In addition to the essay, please write a personal letter to yourself, doing your best to keep it under 2 pages double-spaced. (But any length is fine as this is a letter to your future self!) Describe the who, what, when, where, why and how of your life right now. Look to the future, too: where you see yourself on April 30, 2024? What do you think will be challenging in the next three years? What are you anxious about — and hopeful for — in the coming year? What would success look like for you a year from now? Looking for more inspiration? Here is a PDF of a time capsule worksheet (Links to an external site.) that might help with ideas and topics. In addition, include a copy of your
