PO 1003 Ethical Leadership Social Responsibility & Social Change Discussion

I’m working on a business discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

1) Ethics centers around a system of moral values and serves as the basis for how people live their lives and make decisions. The concept includes the idea of doing the right thing for the right reasons; however, these sets of values and guiding principles are not always clear cut and vary from person to person. Sometimes, a situation arises that presents an ethical dilemma, which involves having to choose one ethical value or principle over another. For this Discussion, select one of the scenarios from McNamara’s “Complete Guide to Ethics and Management: An Ethics Toolkit for Managers.” Select one of the scenarios and consider the options for decision making and possible outcomes. Consider how you might respond to this situation if you were in the position to make a decision or take action.

Share with your colleagues which situation you chose, what decision you would make in the situation, and why you would select that path. Include the pros and cons for your decision and whether you think it would stand the test of time.

2) When people band together around a common goal or cause and seek to bring about change, that is referred to as a movement. It takes not only drive, ambition, and courage to lead a movement; it also requires a vision and the willingness to persist. As a leader, you can strive to lead a social change movement, but will others follow? In this Discussion, you will engage with your colleagues about what is involved in a positive social change movement and how those types of movements are able to have an impact on society.

Review the TED video, How to Start a Movement, as well as some of the videos of the Scholars of Change award winners at Walden. Then, select a social change movement—big or small—and consider the impact of that movement on society. Note: The movement you select may be one brought about by a Scholars of Change winner, or you can include something from personal experience or something that you learned about from the news, social media, or other online searches. Just be sure to select a movement about which you have sufficient information to share your thoughts.

Share with your colleagues your selected example of a movement that had a lasting impact on society. Who led the movement? What was it that caused or inspired the start of that movement? What were the components of that movement, and how did those components support the movement’s impact over time?
