MOD 3 Public Health Equity Considerations Case Study

Purpose: The Current Event paper is intended to help you put into practice critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills that are essential to your success in this course (and in your academic and professional careers!).

Description: Your task is to write a short paper on a public health-related news article connected to any of the topics we covered in the course modules this semester. The article must have been published any time between March 21, 2021 and May 1, 2021. You may search for public health-related articles online through a variety of sources, such as NPR Health, WHO weekly newsletters, health sections of online newspapers, WebMD, PubMed, public health journals, medical journals, health policy briefs, local newspapers, etc.

Instructions: Your paper should be between 450-500 words in length, typed in 12-point font, follow appropriate writing structure (e.g., complete sentences, free of typos), and written in an analytical style. An analytical writing style involves reviewing what you have read, showing the thought processes you went through to arrive at a given conclusion, and discussing the implications of what you read. Below is an outline designed to help guide your writing of this paper. You must follow this 3-paragraph formatting structure:

  • Paragraph 1: State the article title, source, date and author, and provide a link to the article. Include a brief synopsis of the article, not a repetition. For example: What are the main points? Turnitin plagiarism review will be used for this assignment, so please ensure the originality of your work before you submit your paper. Copying/pasting directly from the article is considered plagiarism and will not be allowed.
  • Paragraph 2: Discuss how you evaluated the source’s credibility. It may be helpful to go back and review the PowerPoint slides for Module 3 on evaluating the credibility of health information, especially information obtained from the web (slides 20-29).
  • Paragraph 3: Address the article’s relevance to what you have learned in class about the specific health topic discussed in the article. For example: Reflecting on what you have learned throughout the course, why is this topic important? Did this article point out a critical issue about a topic we discussed in class? Note: These are only examples of questions you may want to consider as you write your paper, but you do not need to answer these questions exactly.
