Companies go international for different reasons. Such a move can be really profitable; however, sometimes challenges can diminish the positive outcomes. Good planning is crucial for a successful and profitable international operation.

Using the University online library resources and the Internet, search recent business news on two companies that expanded their operations abroad.

  • Describe the global business environment and discuss the implications globalization may have on strategy formulation.
  • Concerning the two companies chosen for this discussion, analyze the reasons that led them to expand their operations internationally, as well as the main advantages and challenges of such a strategic move.

Assignment 2: Cultural and Ethical Challenges for Multinational Organizations

In order to succeed or to remain successful, companies need to have a good synchrony with their external environment. As companies expand their operations to different countries and in order to be accepted in a different culture, they have to adapt by changing some of their ways of doing business. Globalization may bring an intensification of ethical differences and ethical conflicts. From a company’s perspective, business as usual may be preferable, while local traditions and values can be seen as parochial, backward or even reprehensible. Conversely, from the standpoint of foreign cultures and communities to which the company expanded operations, the ways of doing business and behaviors favored by multinational corporations can be perceived as invasive, insensitive, or even immoral. One good example of this would be the way Muslim fundamentalists would see many Western corporations and the products offered by them.

Using the University online library resources, locate a minimum of four different scholarly sources on organizational and national culture and ethical challenges faced by multinational companies and summarize your findings. Based on that, recommend best practices for a company that wants to expand its operations abroad. What philosophies of ethics would you recommend as frameworks for action? Justify your choice(s).

Assignment 3: Global Strategy Analysis—The Choice of Business

 

For this assignment, you will provide a description of the organization that will be used for your global strategy analysis. The definition of a business considers four dimensions: product (or service) function, technology employed, target market served, and geographic scope. Remember that the information collected and discussed here will be aligned with the contents of the Required Assignment due in Module 4, and in turn with your final LASA project due in Module 7.

Complete the following, in a 3–4-page assignment:

  1. Identify a company that currently has international/global operations and plans an expansion into a new country or a domestic company that intends to expand its operations abroad.
  2. Explain the business, its mission, its vision, core beliefs and company culture.
  3. Provide a comprehensive business description, including its industry, industry and business life cycle stage, the type of organization, the needs to be satisfied with the expansion initiative, ownership, current location(s), size, products/services, the strategic advantage, and the legal structure.
  4. Provide the existing/proposed geographic scope of the business.

Your final report will be in a word document and be approximately 3-4 pages in length and utilize 1-3 professional sources in your research.
